Dr Xiaoqin Fang, PhD, currently serves as Director of Technology Development and Commercialization at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. Since 2013, she has built and led teams responsible for managing the institute’s technology portfolio, overseeing incubation, late-stage development, and strategic industry partnerships to translate ophthalmic innovations into impactful healthcare solutions. Dr Fang has established herself as a key figure in Singapore’s healthcare innovation ecosystem. She managed the first Ophthalmic Technologies Incubator within healthcare clusters, generating six spin-off companies with more than S$10 million in follow-up funding. Her commercial expertise spans more than 30 technology licensing deals with companies ranging from start-ups to multinational corporations. She has spearheaded major collaborations with leading ophthalmic companies, including Carl Zeiss Meditec, Santen, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, and Ring Therapeutics, with overall company investment exceeding S$50 million. Her notable translational successes include Myopine™ for childhood myopia treatment and SELENA+, an AI-based screening product adopted in national eye screening programmes. Prior to SERI, she worked at Medtronic on unmet-needs identification and new product development.
